Two militants killed in Baramulla shootout

Baramulla, Oct 19(KMW): At least two militants were killed in a brief exchange of fire in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town on Friday afternoon.

Sources said that two militants fired upon a naka party near Kralhal Railway Track created panic in the area. The Forces personnel retaliated, killing two militants on spot.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that at about 13:30 hours one Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK 01 L5792 coming from Srinagar side was signalled to stop at Naka near Kralhar, Baramulla manned by a joint team of Police and paramilitary forces.

“While being checked two militants boarding the vehicle fired upon forces party. In the brief exchange of fire both the militants got killed and one policeman received minor injuries,” the statement said.

“The following Arms ammunition was recovered from the possession of killed militants. AK Series Rife 01 No, AK Magzine 01 No, UBGL 01 No, Pistol (Chinese) 02 Nos, Pistol Magazines 06 Nos, AK rounds. 19 Nos, Pistol rounds 52, Grenade 03 Nos, UBGL Grenade -02 Nos,” said police spokesman.

“Case FIR No 176/2008 registered in Police Station Baramulla and investigation taken up,” he said.

“Driver of the vehicle has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized,” said police spokesman in a statement.
