Srinagar: Traffic on 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu resumed today after remaining disrupted for a day due to landslides, triggered by heavy rains in Ramban sector.
A traffic police official said the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was closed following shooting stones and landslides, triggered by rains between Batri Cheshma and Ramban yesterday.
Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers, remained stranded on the highway for about eight to ten hours.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for maintenance of the highway, put sophisticated machines and men into work and put through the highway.
Official sources said passenger vehicles were given preference and allowed to move towards their respective destinations after the BRO removed landslides on the highway last evening.
Trucks carrying essentials for the valley and those loaded with fruit for Jammu have also started their journey this morning.
The weather is still cloudy with intermittent rains on the highway.
