Srinagar, 20 January(KMW): Police today foiled the proposed ‘march’ of PPP and arrested senior Hurriyat leader and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Political Party (PPP) Chairman, Engineer Hilal War from his residence ahead of protest March on the 29th anniversary of Gawkadal Massacre. The PPP’s march was supposed to take off on January 21, 2019 from Maisuma to pay homage to martyrs of Gawkadal massacre.
A heavy contingent of Jammu and Kashmir Police surrounded the War Lane Maisuma at 2 p.m. in the afternoon and took Engineer Hilal Ahmad War in custody. He was detained at Police Station Maisuma.
“This was the first major massacre in Kashmir committed and carried out by Indian forces after the inception of politico-armed struggle for right to self-determination of people of Kashmir. In this brutal and horrified massacre 52 innocent and unarmed civilians were killed in cold blood and more than 250 civilians sustained serious injuries,” said War while taking to media persons during his arrest.
Mr. War appealed International Human Rights Organizations in general and UN Human Rights Commissioner in particular to set up an International Tribunal to probe the Gawkadal massacre so that the conspirators and perpetrators of this heinous crime are punished under International.
Expressing a strong resentment, Mr. War said such tactics won’t bog down the freedom loving Kashmiris and their leadership. He condemned the highhandedness of the state police in strong words and said that the sacrifices of Kashmiris will bear the fruit of freedom.
