Islamabad: Pakistan and Turkey on Tuesday inked nine documents for cooperation in different fields including investments, energy and communications.
The visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Pakistani counterpart Yusuf Raza Gilani witnessed the signing of accords at the Prime Minister House.
The documents included an Agreement on bilateral investment, five Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) mainly on energy, education and communication and two protocols on Joint Ministerial Commission and cooperation on archives.
Ministers and senior officials from both countries signed the agreements.
The accords include Agreement concerning the reciprocal Promotion and Protection of Investments, MoU between the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Turkey and Pakistan’s Ministry of Communications on cooperation in the field of International Road Transport, MOU on cooperation in the field of Renewable Energy, MoU between Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, and Turkey’s METUTECH and MoU in the field of urbanization.
Besides, a MoU on Solid Waste Management and the Protocol on Joint Ministerial Commission were also inked.
The Protocol on cooperation in the field of Archives between the governments of Pakistan and Turkey was also signed by officials of the two countries.
The two prime ministers signed a Joint Declaration of the second session of Pakistan-Turkey High Level Cooperation Council.
Erdogan told a joint press conference along with Gilani that Pakistan and Turkey have signed 30 bilateral agreements in two years. He said that both countries inked nearly 100 agreements.
The two sides also vowed to increase bilateral trade upto 2 billion US dollars.
â€Signing of so many agreements is a testimony and a strong will displayed by the leadership of both countries for further cooperation,†Erdogan said.
He said that entrepreneurs should be encouraged to invest in both countries and also jointly in third country.
The Turkish Prime Minister said that his country will complete 4,500 houses in Pakistan’s flood-hit areas.
