LG Ladakh’s Directions Spur Major Drive to Remove Unnecessary Poles, Wires in Kargil Bazaar

Kargil, May 16, 2026: Acting on the directions of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, issued during his recent visit regarding the beautification of Kargil Bazaar and its peripheral areas, the District Administration Kargil has launched a large-scale drive for the removal of unnecessary poles and overhead wires belonging to BSNL, Airtel and other telecom operators.

Under the supervision of Additional District Development Commissioner Kargil, Ghulam Mohd, (JKAS ), the administration today carried out another phase of the drive during which more than seven poles along with unused wires were extracted from different locations in the town.

While interacting with the media, the ADDC informed that a committee has been constituted to conduct a detailed survey of additional poles and unnecessary wires from Bus Stand up to Changrah Bazaar. He added that, in a phased manner, the extraction of redundant poles and wires in both urban and rural areas will commence from Monday onwards.

He urged the general public to cooperate with the concerned departments during the drive and stated that the initiative aims to avoid inconvenience to commuters besides enhancing the overall beautification and aesthetic appearance of Kargil town.

The drive is being carried out with the active support of the Municipal Committee Kargil, Revenue Department,PDD, R&B , BSNL, Airtel other telecom operators and concerned agencies, and will continue in the coming days.
