Leh, May 23: The inauguration and upgradation celebration of Ladakh Model Government Higher Secondary School, Chushul was held with great enthusiasm and community participation on May 22. The event marked the upgradation of the school to Higher Secondary level as well as its inclusion under the Ladakh Model School initiative.

The occasion was graced by the Administrative Secretary, School Education Department, UT Ladakh, Bhanu Prabha as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included Ven Konchok Tsephal. The celebration was also attended by DEPO, Leh Phuntsok Dorjey; Nodal Officer, Ladakh Model School, Chamba Stander: ZEO, Durbuk, Sonam Stobdan, members of the Village Education Committee, village elders, parents and other dignitaries.

The programme featured vibrant cultural performances by the students of the school, with different school houses presenting various traditional cultural dances, showcasing the rich heritage and talent of the region. On the occasion, the Administrative Secretary distributed school bags to nursery students and also presented new school uniforms for the students of the Model School.

During the ceremony, addresses were delivered by the Chairperson of the Village Education Committee, the Nambardar of the village, and other dignitaries, who highlighted the collective efforts made towards the growth and development of the school.

In her address, Administrative Secretary Bhanu Prabha described the occasion as a joyful and historic moment for the people of Chushul. She stated that the school’s upgradation to Higher Secondary level and its inclusion under the Ladakh Model School initiative were significant achievements for the entire region. She assured the villagers that every effort would be made to resolve the issues faced by the school and emphasized that being a Model School brings greater responsibility for teachers, parents and students alike to uphold excellence in academics, discipline and overall development.

She also congratulated the Class 10 students for their commendable academic performance and appreciated them for achieving a high pass percentage. Highlighting the active contribution of the entire village towards the betterment of the school, she remarked that such collective community participation is inspiring and essential for educational progress.

Further, she expressed hope that the upgradation of the school would ensure quality education for children living in the border villages and provide them with better learning opportunities which would lead them towards prestigious professions.

Additionally, the Village Education Committee presented mementos to individuals and contributors who have worked tirelessly for the betterment of the school and expressed heartfelt gratitude for their dedication and support.

The upgradation of the school also reflects the School Education Department’s continued commitment towards strengthening educational infrastructure in remote border areas like Chushul along the Indo-China border. Such initiatives are essential in ensuring access to quality education for children within their own villages and play an important role in deterring migration away from border communities.
