Night temperature drops further, maximum above normal in Kashmir

Srinagar: Night temperature continued to drop in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region, where world famous tourist resort of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Leh recorded coldest night of the winter so far.

However, the maximum temperature was above normal because of dry weather.

There would be no major change in the weather in the Kashmir valley during the next 24 hours, a Met department spokesman said adding the weather will remain dry and cold.

The night temperature will drop further because of open sky while the day will improve, he said.

Famed ski resort of Gulmarg recorded coldest night of the winter so far after the minimum dropped to minus 12 degrees this morning, about one notch less than yesterday when it was minus 11.4 degrees, earlier lowest.

Similarly Pahalgam, health resort in south Kashmir also recorded coldest night when the minimum settled at minus 8.2 degrees, breaking the previous lowest of minus 7.4 degrees yesterday.

There was almost no change in summer capital, Srinagar, where the minimum was recorded minus 1.2 degrees this morning. However, the lowest so far recorded during this winter was minus 4.3 degrees on December 17.

People in Leh woke up to yet another coldest morning when the minimum dropped to minus 17.8 degrees lowest of the winter so far. (KMW News)
