Srinagar: Expressing concern over the shortage of basic amenities in the Valley, Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday staged valley wide protest against the National Conference- Congress Coalition government and demanded release of youths who were allegedly behind the bars under the Public Safety act.
Led by its senior leaders, including, Tariq Hameed Karra, Dilawar Mir and Asiya Naqash, the P.D.P workers started a rally from the party headquarters here in Srinagar and marched towards the Lalchowk.
However a heavy deployment of security forces intercepted them at Polo View and was not allowed going further.
There the Senior Party leader, Tariq Hameed Karra addressed to the party supporters. He said, “The police have registered an FIR against 5000 youths under the Public Safety Act. P.D.P is demanding immediate release of those youths who are languished in different jails and police stations.”
He also castigated the government for not prosecuted those who were allegedly behind the killings of 120 youths last year in Kashmir.
He said, “The involvement of NC ministers in one or the other scams has swelled enormously, corruption has travelled down to the junior most officials making the life of common man miserable.”
Karra claimed that P.D.P would not remain silent to see people suffer for want of basic amenities.
“There is shortage of essential commodities including gas, kerosene oil and other amenities. Erratic power supply has added to woes of people,” he added.
Another Senior leader, Dilawar Mir accused the NC Govt of ‘completely disappearing’ from the scene and ‘escaping to comforts of their luxurious palaces outsides the state.’
“Drama on AFSPA revocation created by Omer Abdullah Government is only to divert attention from the suspicious death of their close confidante, Haji Yousuf, who had exposed rampant corruption in the higher echelons of Abdullah family,” he alleged.
Amidst the address by the party leaders, the P.D.P supporters raised the slogans, “Katil sarkar hai hai, badmash sarkar hai hai, corrupt sarkar hai hai.” They were also carrying the placards that read, “Remove AFSPA: PSA, Yeh andhan kanoon hai,Gunda raj band karo.”
Later on the really dispersed off peacefully.
Similar demonstrations were also held at the tehsil headquarters across the Valley by the P.D.P party against the state government. (KMW News)
