Srinagar, January 4 (KMW) Authorities on Thursday foiled an attempt of Hurriyat (G) to hold a seminar on the resolutions passed by the United Nations (UN) on Kashmir.
“A massive deployment of government forces has been made outside the residence-cum-office of Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday morning to prevent people from entering the venue,” reports said.
They said top leaders and activists have already been detained since Tuesday night.
“The aim of the seminar: ‘Resolution of Kashmir Dispute in The Light of Right to Self Determination’ was to deliberate over the 18 Kashmir resolutions which were passed in UN since 1948,” he said.
He said it is surprising that the government did not allow the seminar, which was a peaceful and was to be held inside the premises of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat office.
Ahead of the scheduled seminar, the government placed Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest and arrested JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and lodged him in the central jail Srinagar yesterday. The two leaders were invited by Geelani to attend the seminar.
Geelani has been under house arrest since 2010. Two government forces vehicles have been stationed outside his Hyderpora house where he has been put under house detention.
The General Secretary of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai too is undergoing detention at his Baghat house.
