KP’s should come back to Kashmir and defeat the Jagmohan policy: Er. Hilal War
Srinagar, Jan 21: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (M) , senior leader and Jammu & Kashmir People’s Political Party (PPP) Chairman, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War had given a strike call in the civil lines areas of Srinagar city from Polo View to Hari Singh High Street. The call was given against the Gawkadal Massacre which took place on January 21, 1990. 52 unarmed people were killed and about 250 sustained bullet injuries at the hands of Indian Security Forces on that day.
Mr. War while addressing a huge gathering at his Maisuma residence said, “The Gowkadal massacre is perhaps the first of its kind in the history of Kashmir in which signals of massacre were given well in advance. On January 20, 1990 Jagmohan’s first television address as governor of J & K State stunned everyone. It was clear cut provocative address and a direct threat in which Jagmohan said if anybody creates a law and order problem, meray haathon say aman ka patta khisak jaye ga (the cards of peace I’m carrying will slip away from my hands). And in less than 24-hours the threat was carried out in a brutal mannerâ€. Er. War appealed the Pandit fraternity not to continue to be a part of the Jagmohan conspiracy, willingly or unwillingly. “I request and invite my Pandit brethren to come back and live shoulder to shoulder with Muslims and those Pandits who braved all odds but stayed put in 1990.†Er. War said that there is no room for a separate homeland. He said that the whole idea of this separate home land has been engineered by the ideologues of RSS. “There are no takers for this homeland business of RSS and my Pandit friends should understand that. They shouldn’t become pawns in the hands of the Hindutva forces.â€
Er. War said that Indo-Pak talks must continue and shouldn’t be held hostage to any kind of irritants or violence. “India and Pakistan must talk come what may,†said Er. War, “There is no scope for aggressive posturing or jingoistic talk. India and Pakistan have no option but to keep aloft the flag of negotiations to resolve all the pending issues, especially the core Kashmir issue.â€
Er. War said that Indian leadership shouldn’t rule out a full-fledged war as it continues to sleep over the burning K-issue. “India must know that a nuclear conflagration cannot entirely be ruled out. And in case of a war, India should get shocked if China too jumps in because of the many dynamics that came about in the last decade or so.â€
While paying the homage to Gawkadal Martyrs in the rally, Mr. War said, “The Gawkadal Massacre was a well thought out plan of the then Govt. of India which was aimed at paving the way for Kashmiri Pandit’s exodus from Kashmirâ€. It is pertinent to mention here that the conspiracy of Kashmiri Pandits exodus was hatched by the then Governor of J & K, Mr. Jagmohan. PPP Chief demanded the arrest of those who were responsible for the massacre. And further demanded that the conspirators be unmasked and punished.
Mr. War thanked the people of Civil Lines Area and Traders fraternity for observing complete shutdown and showing solidarity with the martyrs of Gowkadal and sympathy with PPP.
Er. War was accompanied by senior party leadership including Advocate Mohammed Amin Bhat and hundreds of PPP activists.
