Chief Secretary reviews innovation projects at NIELIT, Leh

Leh, April 8, 2026: The Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, visited National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Leh, to review ongoing innovation projects and assess various institutional initiatives.

He was accompanied by the Secretary, School Education, Bhanu Prabha, the Director, NIELIT, Phuntsog Toldan, and other senior officials.

During the visit, Director NIELIT, Phuntsog Toldan, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the institute’s key activities, including its introduction, Research and Development, capacity-building programmes, and efforts towards fostering a startup ecosystem in Ladakh.

The Chief Secretary was also briefed on several digital portals and applications developed by NIELIT. These included the LAHDC Permit Portal, the Bodhi App—an AI-based language application, KHORLO App, an AI-enabled taxi booking platform and 1st Ladakhi Large Language Model.

The presentation also covered ongoing innovations and future projects being developed by the institute, like Bidirectional Solar Electric Vehicle with AI-based TERRAIN detection and ADAPTIVE TORQUE CONTROL, IoT-based smart apricot and vegetable dryer, solar Peltier-based hot and cold storage system, IoT-based beer detection system for Kargil, all-in-one solar generator and many more.

Emphasising the importance of nurturing innovation at the grassroots level, the Chief Secretary stressed the need for establishing parallel laboratory setups in colleges to enhance practical learning and technological exposure for students.

Later, the Chief Secretary visited the institute’s laboratories, where Interns demonstrated their ongoing and completed projects. He interacted with the students and appreciated their efforts, encouraging them to continue contributing towards innovation and technological advancement in the region.
