Assembly: NC demands arrest of army men involved in Shopian killings

Jammu, January 29 (KMW): Jammu and Kashmir assembly on Monday discussed the Shopian civilian killings after Speaker Kavinder Gupta allowed the adjournment motion of opposition.

Speaking during the discussion on the issue of civilian killings in South Kashmir’s Shopian District, Senior National Conference MLA Khanyar Ali Mohammed Sagar said that the issue of Kashmir dispute cannot be solved through military rule.

He added that it is a historical fact that Kashmir is a dispute which needs to be addressed through positive means and there is a need of strong will and conviction to address the issue.

He said that it is not the question of how many people killed during NC rule and vice versa in PDP-BJP government, but there is a question how to bring an end to the cycle of such killings.

Sagar said that when people like General Dyar was born, independence of that place becomes eminent like in case of India.

He said that people of Kashmir can’t be frightened by the military and the issue could be settled only through peaceful and meaningful dialogues. He said that even Separatist leader today acknowledge the peace initiative and dialogue process started by former BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He said that several probes initiated by the government in last two years but nothing happen. He said that he lives in a state where a Sub Inspector level officer arrested the Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.

He demanded action against the army personnel involved in the killings of three civilians by arresting them without any further delay. He while invoking the religious, Sagar said that Kashmir is a Muslim majority state in India and if anything happens with any Muslim in the country by hands of Saffron parties, the reaction in Kashmir is imminent.

He asks the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to take the courageous step to bring an end to present turmoil in Kashmir.
