SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference Friday called the bluff of uncouth president of the Pradesh Congress, Prof Saif-ud-din Soz, over his recent statement that no coalition government could be formed without Congress support.

In a statement, the party’s senior vice-president, Muzaffar Shah, said while he personally respected Prof Soz, the PCC chief’s clumsy rhetoric had compelled him to say that he had a totally misplaced notion of his party’s standing and relevance in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The arrogance of UPA government’s power and its infatuation has made Prof Soz loose his composure and make such incoherent utterances,” he said, adding Prof Soz was totally out of sync with the bitter reality that he could not himself win an election without government’s help. He cannot even move around to attend public meetings without elaborate security, he said.
Shah said Congress was behind the unfortunate split of the National Conference and Prof Soz had to deal with the party’s faction which, in the past, had fallen into the trap of Congress duplicity, deceit and conspiracies.
“Prof Soz should remember the state people are no worms of a gutter who can always be trampled by any power. Had he or his party had the good of people at their heart, he would have supported the revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and helped release of political prisoners languishing in jails without trial,” he said, adding the people were aware of the agenda of the party with which Prof Soz is dreaming of forming the government.
Shah said the upcoming 2014 general elections would usher in a new chapter in the state’s history in which Congress or any opposition party would not even find a mention. He said the people would reject all other parties and bring to power the one whose sacrifices they would be fully aware of.
Shah said the new government would safeguard the rule of law and provide relief to the people. It would reflect the aspirations and heartbeats of the people and bring about an ambience free from violence.
On top of all, he said, the new government would accord the highest priority to the peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute on the basis of constitutional and legal requirements.
