Zardari expresses condolences to Iranian leadership over tragic earthquake

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the entire Pakistani nation shares the sorrow and grief of their Iranian brethren at this hour of distress. “Our hearts go out for those who lost their dear ones and those who were affected by the tragic earthquake,” the President said in two separate letters sent on Sunday.

The one addressed to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatullah Hajj Sayyid Ali Khamenei and the other to Iranian President Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the President said that he was deeply shocked to hear about the severe earthquake that hit Ahar and the areas adjoining the historic city of Tabriz resulting in loss of a large number of precious lives, injuring hundreds of people and causing widespread destruction of property.The President expressed to the Iranian leadership heartfelt condolences on behalf of the people and the Government of Pakistan and on his own behalf. He said that he was confident that the brave Iranian nation would deal with this challenge in keeping with its proud traditions.The President said that the Government and the people of Pakistan stand ready to extend every possible assistance to the victims to alleviate their sufferings.
