The family leveled these allegations after staging a sit in near Press Enclave here in Srinagar. The body of a Padshahi Bagh youth who was missing since Friday last week was fished out from river Jhelum near LD Hospital Monday, police and reports said. The incident triggered instant protests with the bereaved suspecting that it could be a murder adding that his body bore marks of attack.
Iqbal, 17, son of Muhammad Iqbal, had disappeared under mysterious situation while the family had been trying to ascertain his whereabouts. “On the fateful day he had gone to see his friend in Soura but didn’t return while his phone was switched off since,” Naseer Ahmed his uncle told.
“We got to know from some quarters that Zahid’s SIM could have been removed from the phone on the same day when he disappeared and this was the reason why his phone was switched off,” Zahid’s uncle added.
On Monday as Zahid’s body was fished out the family said it bore marks of torture. “His head and shoulder was badly wounded. It’s a simple case of murder,” the family claimed. Meanwhile a police handout said, “Zahid was missing since 23rd August and a missing report was registered by his father in police station Sadder.”
“Srinagar police has taken cognizance and inquest proceedings under section 174 CRPC have been initiated. Post Mortem of the body has been conducted and there is no visible mark of injury on the body,” the police handout said.
“The protesters while talking to news agency urged the higher authorities to take their matter seriously into consideration and arrest the culprits involved in the murder.
