SRINAGAR: World Heritage Day was observed by Markaz-i Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ul-Aalam Studies, University of Kashmir at the seminar hall of the Centre here today.
The function was attended by a galaxy of scholars, eminent writers and students of Kashmir University.
The function was presided over by Chairman INTACH, J&K Chapter, Mr. Muhammad Saleem Beigh while Director, Centre of Central Asian Studies, Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Bandy delivered an extension lecture on the significance of the heritage of Kashmir and the measures for its preservation for posterity.
Chairman Markaz-i Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ul Aalam Studies, University of Kashmir, Prof. Basher Bashir while speaking on the occasion said that Centre is conscious about the richness of Kashmir ethos and the efforts have been made to disseminate the great cultural heritage of Kashmir to younger generation. He laid stress on preservation and promotion of Kashmiri language through which we understand luminaries like Alamdar-i Kashmir and others.
Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Bandey in his lecture referred to valuable monuments of Kashmir which we should preserve for times to come. He emphasized on the need to make younger generation aware of our glorious past so that they become conscious about it.
Muhammad Saleem Beigh in his presidential address said that besides preservation, interpretation of various things related to our heritage is more important so that we are able to understand many things regarding our past. He hailed the efforts of Markaz-i Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ul Aalam Studies for developing linkage between the academia and Kashmir society.
Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Banday and Muhammad Saleem Beigh were felicitated by Markaz-i Noor for their outstanding contribution in the said fields.
Rich tributes were paid to Late Professor Muhammad Ishaq Khan former Chairman of the S.A. Chair on the occasion.
