Srinagar: Winter supply to Ladakh region and far-flung areas remained affected as strike by Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) employees entered the third day today.
Grounding of about 1200 SRTC vehicles also affected bus services to Delhi, Jammu and tourist bookings.
The employees are on an indefinite strike alleging that government was transferring the prime property of the SRTC to other departments.
Winter stocking of essentials in different parts of the Ladakh region, particularly in district headquarters of Leh and Kargil, has been badly affected due to the strike.
This is the time when hundreds of trucks are plying to carry essentials for Ladakh region for winters.
Similarly, winter stocking in far-flung and remote areas, particularly near the Line of Control (LoC), including Machil, Tangdhar, Neeru, Keran and Karnah, which also remained cut off during winter months due to heavy snowfall, was also affected due to the strike.
“Since there is no response from the government to our demands, the strike will continue in Jammu, Delhi and Kashmir,” SRTC president Wajahat said.
He said,” We are protesting against the government’s decision to take away corporation prime land at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC).” Continuing their dharna, the striking employees said they were beaten up and thrown out from the TRC office, gates of which have been closed and some office rooms also demolished.
