When the torrential rain occurred nearly lasting for five days in early September, it absolutely contraindicate that something unspecified should be fall out. There ought to look lucidly to determine the nature’s horror face which should be taken gravely, but what happened as we all thoroughly cognizant about the goddamn matter. If the positive steps were taken before the devastated flood hit the valley. There would be minimum deaths and might be insignificant loss of properties it would be only possible when the government conducted some measure steps, for instance they should open flood channels, put forth water boats to our dynamic youngsters,they may also aware the locals about the decimated flood even they can also aware disaster forces; but all goes vanish, even state government not try to establish rehabilitation camps to provide flood victim peoples space, it was the locals who have helped to each other otherwise the loss would be more than the actual loss.
The worst-ever flood that hit Kashmir earlier in the month of September has thrown up many challenges for the government, but government machinery is still unable to proved ineffectively. The situation at ground level is much worse than worst; handling the situation is undoubtedly a herculean task for the locals now. But it would be only possible when the state government take some measures steps to handle the ongoing situation. The government should establish well maintained houses, they can also adjust flood victim peoples in a government quarters, even they can also adjust in schools because there is no classes in winter, as the schools of our valley remained closed throughout the winter.
According to the state government’s survey report, not less than 1.30 million families have been affected due to the devastated flood, as many as 355000 constructed buildings collapsed which includes both private and government buildings, while as 5692 villages were affected. The government official also revealed that more than 260 peoples lost their lives, however 30 peoples are still missing. There are reports that the state has tremendously lost their economy worth of rupees more than 30000 corer. This is genuinely an immense loss for the people and also for the state government. Now it will take a comparatively long time to restore all its economy. However this is a time to think about the flood victim peoples, not to think about past, might be it was our bad luck or might be our bad deeds to which this catastrophe flood scathe our valley, no one can halt fate, this bloody flood was in our destiny.
The winter is nearly approaching in Kashmir; the early chill would be endured for our people who have lost their homes during the merciless September flood. This winter may be annunciation stupendous in our valley, and mainly for the flood victim families, the government should contemplate on these things, and take this matter earnestly. As the elections have knocked the door of state, merely all the political parties are over busy in their own election manifesto, every politician use up their political thoughts in front of disabled Kashmiri people, all parties blame to each other for inappropriate work tend throughout their effective rule, to gain their vote to rule over indisposed Kashmiri. I would like to tell every politician, every party and particularly to the chief minister of state do remember the flood victim peoples throughout the election process, as the winter show their unfriendly expression, they are still living in collapsible tents. This would be too devastated for the flood victim peoples, who lost their homes, who lost their living stuff, who lost their wage earner, if they will not granted well-settled assistance.
In the mean time our SMC and the state administration have not take care of flood channels, river basins, lakes and also of small streams even we don’t care to them. Our flood channels are shallow and even some places they are nearly horizontal, we construct a building in these channels which is not legal according to the rule of law, and dumping the city garbage in them which hinder the flow of water and therefore the outcome situation get stricken badly, this is not only case in urban cities even rural areas are suffering from this illness. There is more chances of destruction in future if the flood channels are not taken seriously.It is achievable only to them who construct a building or even to use of daily garbages on these flood channels because of our weak administration. They don’t like to deal with these things as they earned money from them. Therefore Srinagar Municipal Corporation {SMC} and the state administration should contemplate on the things where people are distress pathetically.
At the same time our people are in anxiousness state, stuck in depression, over the loss of domicile and self possession thing and their outer-look have been stricken due to the loss of their beloved ones. As we know the winter have shown his unfriendly nature in Kashmir, but state government is still under deep slumber, in present they are busy in planning how to deal with upcoming elections;i request to them think about our beloved ones who lost their homes, who lost their wage earners and soforth. It’s a time to provide shelter to those families who lost their homes during catastrophe flood rather to planning a meeting.
Mean while Non Governmental Organizations,our pro freedom leaders and religious organisations should come forth to assist the indigent peoples. Otherwise their anxiousness and depression will soak up their inner soul, if they are not allotted proper assistance. They need our assistance. Let’s hope for the best.
