New Delhi: Home Minister P Chidambaram today said the resignation of the MPs and MLAs from Telangana region was not a matter of ‘surprise’ since they had forewarned of such a situation and felt that the Centre would be able to arrive at a consensus on a ‘sensitive and complex’ matter like creation of Telangana state. Answering questions regarding the Congress MPs wanting to resign their Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha membership, the Home Minister said the government had understood the intent behind their strong views, adding that the AICC General Secretary and other Congress leaders were holding talks with the MPs and MLAs. “I am sure their views would be brought within the consenus,” he said.
As far as the Centre’s views on Telangana were concerned, the Centre had taken no decision. Its announcement on December 9 has to be seen along with the December 23 decision which had kept the earlier announcement on hold, he said.
As regards the resignation of the TDP MLAs was concerned, he would not comment on it saying that “the government will hold an all-party meeting when the parties are ready with their final view on Telangana.” Mr Chidambaram said the Centre’s view will be made known after this meeting but it requires a lot of patience and understanding on all sides, including the media.
