Srinagar, January 5(KMW) : Terming Non- implementation of UN Resolutions on Kashmir, a big question mark on the credibility, relevance, purpose and existence of United Nations, the Chairman of People’s Political Party (PPP), and Senior Leader Hurriyat Conference (M), Engineer Hilal Ahmad War urged UN Secretary General to implement UN Plebiscite Resolutions on Kashmir. The unimplemented UN Plebiscite Resolutions on Kashmir 18 in number those have been passed from time-to-time but not implemented is the sad commentary on the existence and relevance of U.N.
Mr. War said, “Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the Kashmiri Diaspora who are living in the different countries of the world observe January 5 each year as the Right to Self-determination Day, to remind the world community that the UN resolutions on Kashmir remain unimplemented.. On this day in 1949, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution, acknowledging the Kashmiris’ right of self-determination.
Mr. War said that UNCIP resolution of January 5, 1949 was supplementary to the Commission’s Resolution of August 13, 1948 wherein it was decided that UN will appoint a Plebiscite Administrator in order to decide the question of the accession of the State of Jammu and Kashmir to India or Pakistan through the democratic method of a free, fair and impartial Plebiscite.
“Unresolved Kashmir Issue is a Nuclear Flash Point and is causing a constant potential threat to Nuclear War hovering over the whole subcontinent which can engulf the whole world at any point of time, and is real threat to International Peace and Security. Therefore, it is fundamental duty of UN Security Council is to ensure and maintain International Peace and Security and to intervene in Kashmir in order to maintain International Peace and Security under Article 1 of UN Charter”, said Engineer Hilal
Engineer Hilal War said that time is ripe for the international leadership to revisit their previous decision of creating a Body like UN and international leadership is under an obligation to face this ugly reality by way of introducing corrective measures in the Charter of UN, which might redeem the lost glory of UN to a possible extent.
