Srinagar: Emphasizing on the need of a massive awareness campaign to sensitise people about the benefits of solar energy, Minister for Science and Information Technology, Aga Syed Ruhullah said time has come to shift the usage of non-conventional energy instead of conventional source of energy.
The minister was speaking at a seminar on ”Solar Water Heater” organised by Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JKAEDA) and Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) here today.
Syed Ruhullah said though the usage of conventional source of energy is hazardous yet the non-conventional source of energy is eco-friendly, cheap and globally acknowledged.
He said state has vast potential of using non-conventional energy source, adding that need is to explore it fully.
“There is rich solar radiation in the State, said the Minister, adding that schemes approved by the Centre would benefit a large population in meeting their electricity needs, particular during winter months.
Aga said that weather condition of the state demands usage of hot water throughout the year, adding that adoption of non conventional source of energy will not only save money but also help in conserving energy.
The Minister said for making this technology popular in the masses, the primary need is to make aware people about the schemes approved by the Centre for usage of solar source of energy.
He said the need is to remove the illusion of the people about the system, adding that the technology is viable and run even in sub zero temperature. Mr Ruhullah said this technology has been installed at several religious places and are working satisfactorily.
