Srinagar: Hundreds of trucks, loaded with essentials left Jammu this morning as authorities allowed light vehicles to ply from both sides on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
Official sources said following further improvement in the weather, the authorities decided to allow light vehicles, particularly carrying passengers, from both Srinagar and Jammu on the highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
However, they said light vehicles from here have to cross Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir, by 1130 hrs while those coming from Jammu had to cross Udhampur by 1100 hrs.
They said heavy vehicles, including those carrying essentials and LPG gas and petroleum products, left Jammu this morning for Kashmir this morning.
However, no heavy vehicle was allowed from here today to avoid traffic jams on the highway, they said.
The highway remained closed for most period in January and this month so far following heavy snowfall, avalanches and landslides. (KMW News)
