Srinagar, June 16: Two missing youth from North Kashmir’s Pattan town were apprehended by police in Srinagar on Thursday over their affiliation with militant groups.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that a group of policemen in civvies overpowered two youth near Dental College Sheeren Bagh. “They tried to resist but were overpowered and bundled into a private vehicle,” witnesses added.
A police official on condition of anonymity while confirming the arrest of two ‘active militants’ said that a pistol with some rounds was recovered from their possession. The family members of the arrested youth identified them as Basit Ahmed Mir son of Muhammad Ahsan and Isfaq Ahmed Lone son of Farooq Ahmed both residents of Indergam Pattan.
Basit Mir, a 1st year student according to his father Muhammad Ahsan went missing on 28 February this year while Farooq Ahmed Lone told CNS that his son Ishfaq, a Phd degree holder fled from home on 12 June 2014. “The missing reports of both these youth stands registered in police station Pattan,” they said.
“We were informed by some men that our children have been arrested by Special Operation Group personnel from Dental College Srinagar. They have to face the law of land if they are militants but we appeal to state police chief to allow us to meet them in custody,” the parents said.
