Two militants, two army men killed in gunfight near LoC

Kupwara, July 30: Two militants and two Indian Army personnel were killed while another soldier during exchange of fire in Nowgam sector near Line of Control in Kupwara district on late Friday night.

An Army official told Kashmir based news agency that, “alert troops intercept militants attempting to infiltrate during the intervening night of 29-30 July. During the gun fight two militants were killed. Two soldiers also lost their lives while another army man was injured.”

He said that two AK-47 rifles, one UBGL and other warlike equipments were recovered from the possession of militants.

Pertinently, on Wednesday, Army had claimed to have killed four foreign militants in the same sector and also arrested one militant Bhadur Ali, a resident of Lahore in Pakistan. The Pakistani militant after initial interrogation was handed over to National Investigative Agency(NIA) and is being interrogated at New Delhi.

Army said the operation against the infiltrators was launched a few days ago when soldiers had spotted a group of militants near the Line of Control at Tout Mar Gali.

“The operation is still underway,” the official said.
