Srinagar: Two LeT militants including the Divisional Commander of LeT were killed.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, SM Sahai in a press briefing said that yesterday afternoon information was received by Sopore Police about the presence of two militants in Mohalla Shallpora Sopore. Based on this information a joint party of Police Sopore, 22 RR and 179 CRPF was launched in the area and the suspected houses were cordoned. The search was started in the suspected houses and while one of the houses was being searched, militants hiding inside opened indiscriminate fire on the search party in which one CRPF personnel was injured. Thereafter, the civilians were evacuated from the area to safer places. Evacuation operation lasted till late night. The operation was halted during the dark hours of night and resumed with the first light in the morning.
IGP further said that today in the morning, police intervention party stormed into the target house which was fired upon by the militants hiding there in the house injuring ASI Kafil Ahmad of Sopore Police and Naik Gurjan Singh of 22RR. In the ensuing gunfight that lasted for several hours two militants of LET got killed who were identified as, Muzamil Amin Dar @ Hasham, @ Urfi, @Usman son of Mohammad Amin Dar resident of Badambagh Sopore; Divisional Commander LeT and Abdullah Shaheen resident of Pakistan.
IGP added that Hasham was wanted in several militants acts including the killing of SPO Reyazul Hassan Tantray son of Ghulam Hassan Tantray resident of Brath Kalan who was killed by the said militants on 08-09-2012.
Besides his name had figured in the investigation of Delhi Blast Conspiracy case in which two persons from Sopore viz., Ahtisham Malik and Tauseef Ahmad Peer were arrested in February this year in Delhi after they figured in investigations carried out by J&K Police. Since then, Muzamil Amin @Hasham had went underground and joined LeT outfit and rose to this level for being highly active in Sopore area. (KMW News)Â
