Tourism deptt likely to sign MoU with Tollygunge Club to promote golf in state

KOLKATA, MARCH 7: With an aim to attract golfers and also give a fillip to MICE tourism, the department of tourism is likely to sign a memorandum of understanding with India’s second oldest golf club – The Tollygunge Club, Kolkata.
Tollygunge Club is the only Country Club of its kind in India and ranked amongst the top 20 Clubs of the world. It is spread over a hundred acres with a Club House that is over 220 years old.
It offers facilities for golf, tennis, squash, indoor and outdoor swimming, riding and amateur equestrian sports. There is also a well-equipped and extensively used gym with professional instructors. The Club has a bridge room, a billiards room, a pro-shop, a well-stocked library, cyber cafe, unisex salon and herbal ayurvedic centre.
The decision in this regard was taken by Principal Secretary Tourism J&K Government Mr. Sandeep Nayak with President Tollygunge Club Mr Kallol Datta and its CEO Mr A K Mukerjee yesterday.
As per the decision, the club will promote Royal Springs Golf Course Srinagar among its 7000 members across India. The members will be given all the facilities and no course fee will be charged from them at RSGC. Similarly, the members of the RSGC can also play at the Tollygunge Club
Principal Secretary Tourism expressed hope that the MoU would attract country’s best golfers to the State. He said J&K is one of the best places for golfers as the State has developed its courses to provide best golfing experience to the players. He said RSGC is one of the best golf courses in South Asia besides other beautiful courses at Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Jammu.
The President of the Tollygunge Club assured Principal Secretary Tourism that they would promote J&K’s golf courses among its members.
Director Tourism Kashmir Mr Mahmood A Shah who was also present in the meeting said that golfers visit to the state will give a boost to tourism activities in the state.
A presentation was also given to inform about the offered packages of all the golf courses in the state.
Director Tourism Jammu R K Verma, Deputy Director Tourism Publicity Peerzada Zahoor, Chairman PILTOF Nasir Shah, Chairman AKTO were also present in the meeting.
