Top Hizb militant killed in Doda gunbattle

Jammu: A top militant of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen was today gunned own by the security forces in a joint operation launched in remote area of mountainous Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Based on a tip-off regarding movement of a Hizb militant, police and army launched a joint operation during wee hours in a remote area of village Kaishota in tehsil Marmat of Doda district,” official sources here told.
On seeing the patrol party, the militant, identified as Azad Hussain Wani, 36, opened fire which was retaliated and in exchange of bullets, he was gunned down early morning.
“Azad was one of the top and most wanted HM militants in the area,” sources said and added that one Chinese pistol, two magazines and 11 rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.
Official sources said the slain militant had four brothers and two sisters and one of his brothers Atta Mohammad, who was also active in terrorist activities, was killed in 1995.
“The slain militant had two wives and in 2007, he murdered his first wife namely Mobina Begum,” they said adding that he was also involved in the killing of a Territorial jawan in 2005 besides killings of few civilians.
