Srinagar, July 26: The Jammu & Kashmir Association of Rowing and Sculling and the Jammu & Kashmir Water Sports Kayaking and Canoeing Association express deep anguish and unfiltered outrage at the systematic and malicious harassment inflicted upon Ms. Bilquis Mir — a towering figure in the world of sports, and a woman who has carried the honour of Jammu and Kashmir and the entire nation on her shoulders with unmatched grace and determination. We welcome the courageous and historic judgment delivered by the Hon’ble High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on 25th July 2025, which has rightfully quashed the fabricated FIR and criminal proceedings initiated against Ms. Mir. The Court, in words etched with truth and conviction, described the case as a “witch-hunt” and a shameful “abuse of process.” What we, as members of the sporting fraternity, have known all along — that this was a vendetta by vested interests has now been confirmed from the highest bench of justice. Bilquis Mir is no ordinary name. She is the only woman in a country of over 1.3 billion who has represented India as an Olympic-level Jury . Her commitment to the nation and to the youth of this land is not a matter of opinion — it is a matter of record. Her recent contribution was that more than 80 water sports athletes of J&K who got trained by Bilquis Mir are already in official list and about to get a government job under SRO 349 and would be serving in different government departments , hence empowering youth . She has inspired thousands, especially girls from militancy-hit Kashmir, to believe that their dreams matter. And yet, what did she receive in return from a system she served with loyalty? Harassment, humiliation, and a brutal attempt to erase her legacy. The allegations thrown at her were not only weak but also deeply insulting to the very spirit of Indian sports. The Court has made it clear that even if the government had full authority under its own sports policy to make appointments in recognition of outstanding national service. And if ever there was a case of national service through sport, it is this one. The court also observed that all her promotions, deputations, and salary enhancements were duly sanctioned by competent authorities. Yet she was made to walk through the fire for years while those who should have stood by her either stayed silent or became part of the silent conspiracy to pull her down. This was not just an FIR. This was an assault — not only on Bilquis Mir as a person but on the very soul of India’s sporting spirit. It is an insult to the tricolour she represented with pride and to the dreams of every Kashmiri youth who dares to believe in a better future. It is a crime against merit, a slap on the face of excellence, and a tragic reminder of how far jealousy and pettiness can go to destroy what they cannot match. Now that the truth has been restored and justice has prevailed, we believe this is the time not for silence but for strong corrective action. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports must take a stand, not just by acknowledging this injustice but by correcting it in a meaningful way. Bilquis Mir deserves to be honoured — not as a consolation, but as a rightful recognition of what she represents. Her elevation as Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council is not just a demand — it is a national imperative. She meets every qualification, every benchmark, and more importantly, she carries the trust of the people and the athletes of this land. If the system truly wants to promote merit, if we genuinely want the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to rise above conflict, if we sincerely value women’s empowerment and sporting integrity — then this is the moment to act. Let not this judgment end with a file being closed in some dusty shelf. Let it echo as a turning point in how this country treats its real heroes. Bilquis Mir is not just innocent she is extraordinary. She is a survivor. She is a warrior. She is a daughter of Kashmir who never bowed down. She rowed through rough waters and returned to shore with dignity intact and her head held high. Now, it is the duty of the nation to honour her, celebrate her, and protect others like her from ever facing such cruelty again. Let the world know that injustice may have risen like a wave but truth like Bilquis Mir rowed right through it.
