Kabul, May 7  Taliban on Saturday issued a statement making wearing of full body covering attire like burqa or hijab compulsory for a adult women while in public, media reports said.
If a woman was found not covering her face outside her home, her father or closest male relative would be summoned and initially advised to make the woman follow the orders.  If the woman is found repeating the “offence” eventually her male guardians would be imprisoned or fired from government jobs, read the statement from Taliban’s supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.
Khaama News Agency quoted the Taliban statement saying that the mandate has been adopted “in order to avoid provocation when meeting men who are not Mahram”.
Full body covering attire like blue burqa and Chadari was a feature of Taliban’s previous extremist rule from 1996 to 2001.
