Srinagar: Minister for PHE, irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Taj Mohi-u-Din today said that the government has realized a hefty sum of Rs. 475.87 crore as water usage charges from National Hydel Power Corporation (NHPC) as per the Provisions of water Resources Act 2010.
According to Bank statement, the NHPC has deposited Rs. 80,56,83,558 on July 18, 2011, Rs. 20,52,31,054 on July 29, 2011, Rs. 2,46,65,688 on August 04, 2011, Rs. 28,27,55,426 on August 09, 2011, Rs. 98,60,570 on September 27, 2011, Rs. 06,36,56, 790 on October 22, 2011, Rs. 74,04,53,782 on October 22, 2011 and Rs. 62,64,40,419 on October 25 2011 in a separate account opened on the name of Commissioner/Secretary to government, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control department.
This, the Minister said while releasing a bank statement for press here today.
The Minister said that the statement itself clears the doubts raised by a section of press whether the corporation has actually deposited the money with the state government. He said, in fact, the money has been deposited in a separate account opened in the name of Commissioner/Secretary to Government, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control. There is no truth in the rumours that water usage charges in respect of the corporation has been or are being waived off. He said in fact government has set a target of Rs. 900 crore as water usage charges this year from NHPC and other companies using water resources of the state, he added.
