Srinagar, Feb 05: The  Sumo stand drivers who have registered  stands at Maisuma and  exchange road  Srinagar etc  are creating  chaos and confusion due to their reckless behaviour of  taking and loading passengers anywhere especially at exchange road . Exchange road being a sensitive place for security reasons as well should not be used for such traffic activities. Despite clear guidelines to pick the passengers from designated stands, these drivers are flagrantly disregarding rules, picking up passengers at will, and causing unprecedented hardships for pedestrians and business owners.

The situation is particularly dire at Exchange Road, veterinary road, where Sumo drivers are stopping and picking up passengers arbitrarily, resulting in massive traffic congestion and disrupting the flow of vehicles and pedestrians. Pedestrians are facing immense difficulties navigating the area, as Sumos are stopping and starting suddenly, putting lives at risk.

Local shopkeepers are also bearing the brunt of the chaos, complaining that the congestion and disorderly parking of Sumos are driving away customers and resulting in significant losses. “We are finding it challenging to run our businesses due to the chaos caused by these Sumo drivers,” said a local shopkeeper. “We urge the authorities to take immediate action to restore order and sanity to the area.”

The authorities are being requested to enforce designated pick-up and drop-off points for Sumos, reducing congestion and chaos. Additionally, commuters and business owners are demanding that the authorities impose penalties on errant drivers, including fines and suspension of licenses. As the situation continues to deteriorate, commuters and business owners are hoping for swift intervention from the authorities to restore order to the area especially drivers of these areas picking passengers from there only.
