Strike called by separatist cripples life in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 16 (KMW): Life was today crippled in restriction free areas due to strike called by separatist organisations in protest against the killing of a youth and injuries to three others in alleged police firing in Bandipora on March 14.

Shops and business establishments, which would remain open on Sunday, were remained closed and traffic was off the road. However, some vehicles could be seen plying on some routes in Srinagar. Three wheelers had a field day charging extra from passengers in the absence of passenger vehicles.

The famous Sunday market also wore a deserted look due to strike. Life was also paralysed due to strike with all shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic off the roads in this and other major towns and tehsil headquarters in south Kashmir, a report from Anantnag said.

Reports of complete strike were also received from restriction free areas in north Kashmir and central Kashmir districts of Badgam and Ganderbal.

The separatist organisations, including both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference had called for strike against the killing of Farhat Ahmad Dar and injuries to three others in alleged police firing on demonstrators at Naidkhai in Bandipora on March 14.

The government has already ordered magisterial inquiry while police have also initiated probe into the incident.
