Srinagar, April 28: Office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir today issued a notification declaring the opening of Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road for traffic after snow clearance.
According to the notification, the SSG road is declared open for vehicular traffic for One-Way traffic from 28 April 2019, subject to certain conditions. These include, the road shall remain open from 10:00 am to 03:00 pm for the time being during fair weather only.
Only Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) for the time being shall be allowed to ply on the road till further orders. LMVs shall be allowed, subject to certification by the authorities maintaining the road (Chief Engineer, Beacon/Vijayak) that the condition of the road is traffic worthy. District Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal/Kargil shall obtain road clearance certificate from Beacon/Vijayak on daily basis before allowing any vehicle to ply.
No vehicle shall be allowed to ply in case of any adverse report with respect to the condition of road/avalanche warning. It shall be ensured that vehicles are in good condition and loaded with snow tyre/anti skid chains before allowing them to ply. District authorities shall also consider weather advisory on daily basis before allowing the traffic movement. Beacon/Traffic police department will deploy sufficient number of recovery vans enroute to obviate any chances of road blockage due to breaking down of any vehicle.
