Srinagar: Traffic on the 300 km-long Srinagar-Jammu Highway was restored today after remaining suspended for several hours due to snowfall and slippery road conditions.
A traffic police official said the highw
ay, linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was put through from both sides following improvement in the weather.
He said Border Roads Organisation (BRO) responsible for the maintainance of the highway, has cleared the snow on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel.
The road, which was slippery in the morning, was now safe for journey.
All the vehicles which were stranded on both sides of the Banihal were allowed to proceed towards their respective destinations.
More vehicles, including those carrying essentials and fruits, have also been allowed from Jammu and Srinagar, he said.
The road was closed for vehicular traffic following snowfall at several places, particularly on both sides of the Jawahar tunnel, since last evening. (KMW News)
