SRINAGAR: In order to give fillip to sports activities, especially globally popular football sport, government has decided to develop the S. P. College sports field and also construct magnificent pavilion shortly.
This was stated by Minister for Higher Education and Labour Employment, Mr. Abdul Gani Malik while addressing an impressive 7thSaif-ud-Din Memorial Knockout (SDMK) Football Tournament final match played between Iqbal Sports and Forest Football Club (FFC).
The match was won by FFC by two goals.
The Minister awarded the winners and runners up with trophies and cash awards of Rs. 50, 000 and Rs. 30, 000 respectively instituted by SDMK Trust.
Principal, S. P. College, Prof. Zahoor Chatt who was also Organizing Secretary of the event said that the tournament was inaugurated on 10th of September this year and 28 matches were played during this period.
Today was the 29th match in which FCC lifted the trophy and Iqbal Sports stood as runners up, he said. He further informed that two matches were played daily and the players showed their enthusiasm and level of energy during the tournament.
The family of late Saif-ud-Din who were present on the occasion thanked the Minister and Principal S. P. College for sparing their precious time to bless the occasion with their presence. They include Prof. Khalida, Dr. Javed Iqbal, Dr. Naseem Firdous, Ms. Rafiqa Javed and Mr. Ghulam Rasool Shora.
