SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 9: Director SKIMS and EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, while addressing a Workshop on “AI in Healthcare” organised by the Skill Development Centre SKIMS in collaboration with DataLeads, announced that SKIMS will utilise its rich, thirty-year-old data repository to drive new advances in research, academics, and patient care through Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Calling data the “biggest treasure and strength of SKIMS,” Prof. Ashraf said the institute will leverage this valuable resource to achieve innovation and excellence in healthcare delivery.
“Data is gold, and SKIMS will utilise this gold for transformative growth in medical education, research, and clinical services,” he emphasized.
Highlighting the importance of AI integration, Prof. Ashraf said the collaboration between human intelligence and machines will enhance precision, accuracy, and contextual understanding in clinical practice. He further stressed that AI can help overcome challenges at SKIMS such as limited human resources while strengthening medical teaching, training, research, and skill development.
Prof. Ashraf expressed gratitude to Syed Nazakat, CEO & Founder of Data Leads New Delhi, for facilitating the workshop and for highlighting the emerging role of AI in the health sector.
He assured full institutional support from SKIMS for major collaborations in the development of health information systems and AI-driven healthcare models. “SKIMS will take the lead in aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of reshaping healthcare in India through Artificial Intelligence,” he added.
The AI Skill Development Training Programme for Healthcare Professionals, was designed to introduce medical professionals to the transformative potential of AI in modern healthcare delivery, clinical decision-making, and research.
The programme aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical insights into AI-driven tools, digital healthcare applications, and data-informed practices that improve efficiency, accuracy, and patient outcomes.
The workshop covered a broad spectrum of topics including Introduction to AI in Healthcare: Concepts, principles, and global perspectives. Clinical Applications of AI: Diagnostics, imaging, predictive analytics, and personalised treatment planning. AI in Public Health and Research: Population health management, outbreak prediction, and clinical trial support.Ethical and Regulatory Aspects: Patient privacy, data security, accountability, and AI governance in healthcare.
The initiative marks a significant step toward building digital readiness among healthcare professionals, preparing them to harness AI innovations for enhanced clinical practice, research, and system efficiency.
The AI Skill Development Programme at SKIMS reflects the growing need to integrate technology with medicine, aimed at building a digitally empowered healthcare workforce capable of meeting the challenges of the future.
The day long workshop, coordinated by Prof. Aijaz A Lone & Dr. Qazi Mudassir witnessed an overwhelming participation from all cadres of SKIMS including faculty, residents, paramedics, students, administrators & technicians.
