Srinagar, April 18: To create awareness on osteoarthritis and recent advances in robotic knee resurfacing surgery, a team of doctors from Park Hospital, Mohali addressed a press conference here on Saturday. Park Hospitals is North India’s 2nd largest super specialty hospital network with 17 hospitals , 900 ICU beds , 15 cath labs, 45 modular OTs and over 1200 doctors.
Talking to media, Dr Bhanu Pratap Singh director-ortho and robotic joint replacement surgery said that we have a state-of-art Robotic Arthroplasty Center of Excellence at Mohali and we have successfully performed over 100 robotic joint resurfacing surgeries of the patients from Srinagar.
We are empaneled under Ayushman scheme and patients with golden card can now avail cashless treatment for joint replacement at Park Hospital Mohali, he said.
Dr Bhanu further said,” The number of knee replacement surgery is increasing day by day in India. If we look at the statistics, every year more than 2.5 million people undergo this procedure in India. Total knee replacement involves placing metal implants in the knee area to recreate the joint surface.”
With the recent advancement, robotic knee replacement surgery is now being performed in 12-15 minutes. There is no requirement of blood transfusion, no sutures, no drains and the surgery is performed from small cuts (3.5 to 4 inches), informed Dr Anil Kapoor consultant-ortho.
The patient is made to walk 4 hours after the surgery and can climb stairs from the next d. The full recovery happens within 7 -10 days, said Dr Kapoor.
