Karnataka, May 3 In a shocking development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a grave accusation, alleging that Prajwal Revanna, sitting Hassan MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has committed rape amid the ongoing sex videos scandal.
Addressing reporters here on Friday, CM Siddaramaiah declared, “Regardless of his whereabouts, Prajwal Revanna will be apprehended and returned to face justice in India.”
He emphasised that the case against Prajwal Revanna transcends sexual harassment, constituting the serious crime of rape.
“The victim’s testimony holds weight in court. Her life would be ruined if she fabricated such a claim,” Siddaramaiah asserted, highlighting the gravity of the allegations made by a married woman who has come forward alleging rape.
According to reports, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed cases against Prajwal under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376 (2) N (repeated rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (A) (1) (sexual harassment, demanding sexual favors), 354 (B) (use of criminal force on a woman), and 354 (C) (voyeurism).
The victim, one among many whose videos have surfaced, recorded her statement under CrPC Section 164 before the 32nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in Bengaluru. The SIT is actively pursuing the case, issuing a third notice to Prajwal, who is reportedly abroad.
Efforts to locate and apprehend Prajwal include searches of properties linked to him and his father, JDS MLA HD Revanna, where the alleged sexual assaults took place. Authorities have hinted at the possibility of seizing assets in connection with the case.
Despite requests for additional time to appear before the court, Prajwal’s plea was rejected by the SIT.
The scandal, marked by the circulation of obscene videos purportedly showing Prajwal engaging in sexual harassment and abuse, has sent shockwaves through Karnataka’s political landscape, particularly as JDS is an alliance partner of the BJP in these elections.
The scandal has raised serious questions about the conduct of political figures and the safety and dignity of women in the state, prompting calls for swift and decisive action from law enforcement agencies.
