Separatist leaders put under house arrest in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 15 (KMW): A number of separatist leaders in the Kashmir valley were put under house arrest as a preventive measure in the wake of killing of the innocent boy Farhat Ahmad Dar by the Indian Armed forces in Naid Khai, Sumbal, in north Kashmir district of Bandipora last evening.

A spokesperson for Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Dr. Mohammad Umar Farooq was put under house arrest since early this morning including several hurriyat leaders, Moulana Abbas Ansari, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, Javed Ahamad Mir, and Saleeem Geelani were put under house arrest He said Mirwaiz was not being allowed to move out from his Nigeen house, where a large number of security forces and state police personnel had been deployed.

However, another HC leader and Peoples Political Party Chairman, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War has been taken into preventive custody from his Maisuma residence this morning.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik was also put under house arrest at Maisuma near here, a spokesperson for the front said.

Two senior separatist leader– Democratic Freedom Party chief Shabir Ahmad Shah and National Front chairman Nayeem Ahmad Khan, who recently formed third faction of the Hurriyat were also put under house arrest. (KMW)
