Secretary reviews functioning of DIPR

JAMMU, DECEMBER 28(KMW): Secretary Information Department, Dr Abdul Rashid today held a meeting with the officers of the Department to review its functioning.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Narinder Singh Bali, Joint Director Jammu Manisha Sareen, Joint Director Kashmir Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Deputy Director PR Jammu Atul Gupta, Deputy Director Central Avleen Kaur, besides other officials from Finance and Information Department.

During the meeting, various issues were discussed including categorization of newspapers, operationalization of journalists’ welfare fund, constitution of State Media Advisory Council, filling up of vacancies/ reorganising of DIPR, constitution of departmental promotion committee, framing of empanelment policy for electronic/online media, institution of State Media Awards, institution of health insurance/pension scheme for journalists, construction of media complexes at district headquarters among others.

The Secretary Information took stock of the progress made on various issues. He directed the officers to expedite the categorization process of newspapers and submit the report at the earliest.

Taking note of the progress on Institution of Health Insurance/Pension Scheme for journalists, the Secretary directed for expediting the process of formulating the draft proposal in this regard.

The Secretary also sought status report on all ongoing works for setting up of media centres at district headquarters. He was apprised that media centres have already been established in Kathua, Kupwara, Poonch and Budgam. The process has been initiated for establishing media centres in the remaining districts.
