Rather launches Country’s first speed post free home collection service

SRINAGAR: On the eve of 25th Anniversary Celebrations of Speed Post Service Commencing from today throughout the country, the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs. Mr. Ab. Rahim Rather today launched a ‘Special Speed Post Free Home Collection Service’ in Srinagar, making the State first in the country to have this facility in all the three regions of the State. A customer shall have to dial Toll free telephone No. 18001807500 only for availing this reliable and time bound high speed mail service.
Addressing a gathering, after launching the speed post ‘Home collection’ service at General post office (GPO) have this morning, Mr. Rather eulogised the Chief Post Master General, John Sameul, also known as father of the speed post Service, for starting this innovative and people friendly Service in the state. He said despite Information Technology (IT) revolution in communication era, the postal Service in J&K especially in villages is still most trusted service adding that a postman is still a loved and liked person in the society especially among rural populace.
The Regional Manager, State Bank of India (SBI) Mr. A.N. Tak, I.G. B.S.F, Mr. Anil Kamboj, Director, postal services , J&K circle, Mr. Amit Sharma, Sr. Superintendent of post offices, Srinagar, B.L. Pandita, members of postal fraternity representatives of various Banks, and Telecom companies were also present on the occasion.
Mr. Rather called for creating awareness among the people about benefits of speed Post postal Saving and Postal Insurance Services. He appreciated the PMG for initiating innovative postal services in the State for the benefit of people and stakeholders. He said services like the floating post office at Dal-Lake and Tourist post office at Leh started by the department would go a long way in promoting tourism in the state.
“The concept of Post office savings bank in every household started from Leh district shall be of immense help in the process of financial Inclusion”, Mr. Rather added”.
Speaking on the occasion, the PMG gave a detailed account about some new services started in the state for convenience of the people. He said ‘speed post same day service’ has also been started in the state adding that a consignment booked before 12 Noon at specified offices shall be delivered on the same day within the town . The service shall be initially available in Srinagar, Jammu, Udhampur, Anantnag and Baramulla districts without any extra charge ( Rs:-12 for consignment up to 50 gms). He said the department is ready to provide Corporate Post office Service within the premises of corporate office adding that Banks, Insurance companies, Defence establishments should come forward to avail this innovative facility. “The main objective is bring postal Service more closer to the people,” Mr. Sameul added. He said, as a part of speed post Anniversary celebrations, the department of posts has introduced ‘one India one Rate’ scheme under which consignments up to 50 gms will be charged just Rs 25 for any destinations in India.
