JAMMU, (KMW News): Provincial President National Conference Mr Devender Singh Rana on Friday called for attitudinal change towards empowerment of women by encouraging them to benefit from various schemes designed by the government for their economic emancipation.
Speaking at a function, organized by Mrs Bimla Lutha, MLA at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this morning to distribute sewing machines among destitute, Mr Rana sought larger participation of socio-political and voluntary organization in supplementing the efforts to help widows and destitute. “Even a small step can prove a big stride for achieving the objective of empowering poor women”, he added.
The Provincial President lauded the efforts of the government for helping the needy, saying it will go a big way in helping the beneficiaries to supplement their family earnings. He said the sanctioning of knitting and tailoring centre for the Bishnah area will assuage the aspirations of village women who are keen to pursue income generating avocation at their homes.
Earlier, 15 sewing machines were distributed among poor women of Bishnah and R.S Pura areas of the Jammu region. These sewing machines, costing Rs 50,000 were sponsored by Mrs Luthra on her own.
Mrs Luthra expressed her gratitude to the Social Welfare Department for sanctioning a cutting and tailoring centre for Village Pachail in Bishnah Block. She said the Centre will go a long way in training the targeted women from the poor strata of society so that they can start their part time avocation.
She reiterated her party’s resolve to empower the women, particularly those having little avenues in far-off and remote areas. She said the party will continue its efforts in reaching out the poor and help them in getting benefits under various schemes tailored by various agencies under state and centrally sponsored schemes for their empowerment and welfare.
Among others present on the occasion were Rattan Lal Gupta, Vice President, Kr. Rachpal Singh, MLA and Central Secretary, Babu Ram Paul, Brij Mohan Sharma, Th. Kashmira Singh, Gudeep Singh Sasan, Satwant Kour Dogra, Veena Oberoi, Dilshada Malik and Mrs Rita Gupta.
