PATTAN, (KMW News): Welcoming the successful conduct of elections in Pakistan, Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir has said that by participating in large numbers, the people living there have fully reposed their trust in democracy and democratic means and the people of the J&K especially the youth should take a cue from the same.
The Minister was addressing a public meeting at Mehmoodpora Pattan after witnessing a cricket match here today, Mr. Mir said that the people of Pakistan have fully reposed their faith in the power of ballot rather than bullet by coming out in large numbers to bring change in the country. He said that the youth of the state should also come forward and contribute their bit in strengthening the democratic institutions and by this they would be involving themselves in day to day governance for better future.
Coming down heavily on the forces inimical to flourishing of democracy in J&K, Mr. Mir said that they should understand that the cult of violence only brings death and destruction and “they have a glaring example of Pakistan where these elements have been given a befitting reply by the people by exercising their franchise in spite of threats given by certain elements to boycott the election”. He said that this election is of vital importance as it will hopefully usher an era of peace in the whole subcontinent.
Appealing all the shades of opinion to participate in the democratic process, the Minister said that “the history stands testimony to the fact that various vexed issues have been solved by dialogue and not by the barrel of gun”.
Referring to the development of the state, the Minister said during last four years many flagship projects have been launched in every nook & corner of the state by the Coalition Government adding that work on these projects are in full swing. He said besides these flagship programmes numerous steps have been taken to provide better governance to people at their door step. He said in this regard several land mark Acts like Right to Information Act, Public Services Guarantee Act besides Accountability Commission, Vigilance Commission have been made fully functional to ensure transparency and effective service to people.
Referring to the steps taken by the Coalition Government for the development of sports infrastructure, Mr. Mir said that Sports Department has already given the direction to issue yearly based fixture of all the sports activities so that youth would get chance to channelize their abilities for future prospects. He said that the Coalition Government has provided focused attention towards sports activities in the State during last four years and so many national tournaments have been organized in which local players participated. The local players who showed excellent performance in these competitions were given chance at national and international level, Mr. Mir said.
