Rajendra reviews traffic management

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 18: The Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar convened a meeting at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today and reviewed traffic management in the State.
According to a statement issued to KMW, It was in the backdrop of a meeting called by the Governor earlier this week to discuss road accidents and preventions in the State.
Mr. Rajendra asked for comprehensive mechanism to bring about visible changes in the traffic management and sought strict implementation of traffic rules to avoid road accidents, claiming precious human lives.
During the meeting, Mr. Rajendra took note of the investigation related to road accidents and asked for speedy disposal to bring the violators to justice. He asked supervisory officers for proper monitoring and supervision to bring the investigations to its logical end on merits. He said that strict enforcement of Motor Vehicle Act would help to check traffic violations and visible offences leading to accidents. Fruitful measures including awareness among road users would help the enforcing agencies to implement and ensure traffic rules, he added.
Mr. Rajendra said that during past few years an increase has been witnessed in road accidents due to different reasons, mainly the violation of traffic rules. Joint efforts by all stakeholders would help to minimise the accidents.
DGP disclosed that creation of traffic police stations in the State is need of the hour for speedy disposal of investigation of accident related cases. He directed IGP Traffic to identify of sites for proposed police stations, jurisdiction and follow up the requirements of additional manpower to implement the comprehensive traffic management plan.
Earlier, IGP Traffic, Mr Muneer Ahmed Khan apprised the meeting about the various measures taken for road safety and implementation of traffic rules in the State. He said that the violators have been challaned and compound fine realised to serve them corrective.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Additional Directors General of Police, Mr. S. P. Vaid, Mr. V. K. Singh and Mr. Dilbag Singh, IGP Jammu Zone, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, DIG Traffic Kashmir, Mr. Alok Kumar, AIG (Personnel) PHQ, Mr. Tahir Sajjad and other police officers.
