Srinagar: The Awami National Conference patron Begum Khalida Shah today called in an emergency meeting of the party members at their party head-quarter in Srinagar to take cognizance of the deteriorating traffic system of the Srinagar city and the subsequent apathy of the concerned Government towards this mess.
In the meeting Begum Khalida Shah, said that the people of the state in general and Srinagar city in particular remained hostage to the traffic snarls which were more than frequent and an everyday affair. The veteran leader expressed her anguish and dismay over the chaotic scenario wherein all the internal roads of the city remain jammed; especially the national highway at Pantha-chowk and Shalteng/HMT crossing. She said that such traffic jams put the people into severe inconvenience, especially the school/college going students, office goers, Ambulances, tourists and the people at large. She termed it as the cause of a constant worry for the people who have to commute to and fro into the city and to the city dwellers who have to commute up and down the town. She expressed surprise at the clearance of all traffic jams in case of a VIP movement within seconds which otherwise takes hours together. She held all the three previous governments of PDP. Congress and NC responsible for being indifferent to this vital issue of smooth flow of traffic. She lamented that such steps were a cause of increasing feeling of alienation for the people and needed a serious thought.
