Srinagar: Renowned Senior Supreme Court advocate and vital member of Team Anna Mr Prashant Bhushan was allegedly manhandled and beaten up in his chamber on Wednesday afternoon for his comments on Kashmir. Prashant Bhushan whilst speaking to Times Now news channel was physically assaulted by two attackers who barged into his office in the New Lawyers Chamber opposite the Supreme Court. One of the attackers slapped, dragged and punched Bhushan repeatedly. The attacker pinned him down on the floor and kicked on his chest.
According to Times Now, the two attackers are affiliated to Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena. The attackers told Times Now that they were provoked by Bhushan’s comments on Kashmir. He was later on taken to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital for check-up and treatment. In an earlier interview, Prashant had reportedly said that the Kashmiri people should be given ‘azadi’ if they don’t want to live with India. He had also reportedly recommended that withdrawal of Indian army from Kashmir. Bhushan later on filed an FIR against the attackers. .
Kashmiris and sane voices of Kashmir have condemned attack on Prashant Bhushan. While talking to Kashmir Media Watch, Parvez Khurram, leading human rights activist said, “This is a shameful act and a very dangerous sign for democracy. The intolerance in Europe led to two world wars and God knows what this growing intolerance in India would lead to. This act also in a way urges upon the Indian state to speed up the resolution of Kashmir Conflict.”
When asked for his comments on the same Engineer Hilal Ahmad War (Chairman PPP, Human Watch and a prominent civil Society Element of Kashmir), was aghast and amazed at such a heinous act and said, “This act was in itself an indication of the Jungle Raj existent in India against which Mr. Prashant Bhushan and his team has started a crusade at large and instead of receiving appreciation from the Indian nation he has got something completely undeserved. He termed it as a criminal act of highest order deserving utmost condemnation. The Octogenarian leader ensured his full sympathy and support for Mr. Prashant Bhushan for giving a call of referendum on Kashmir.”It is a heartening sign for us that a vibrant intellectual class of Indians is supporting the cause of freedom of Kashmiris.” said Mr. War.
