Srinagar: Police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Monday carried out surprise checks in many parts of this capital city.
City correspondent said that police and CRPF troopers carried out intensified searches across the city since early morning.
Hundreds of paramilitary CRPF troopers and policemen, carrying automatic rifles were seen patrolling the streets, roads, lanes and by lanes of this capital city to keep a close watch on the movement of suspected people.
CRPF men and police were seen carrying out surprise checks at BarbarShah, Residency road, Maulana Azad Road, Ganta Ghar, Budshah Chowk, Maisuma, Jehangir Chowk, Exhibition crossing and other areas of the city . Besides checking the identity cards, the forces were also checking the registration papers of the vehicle owners. At many places, motorcyclists were subjected to thorough frisking by forces.
A heavy posse of policemen laid a cordon in Dalgate this afternoon and carried out surprise checking of people and their vehicles. The pedestrians, including women and children were also subjected to checking.
“The forces stopped me near Maharaj Gunj this afternoon and recorded my personal details. They even recorded the registration number of my bike,” an old city resident said.
CRPF Spokesman, told that the forces had no specific input about a possible militant attack in the city. The searches, he said were a routine exercise.
“Our men assisting the local police carry out searches on regular intervals. There is nothing new in it,” Tripathi said.
“We’re competent and fully equipped to meet any challenge. We’ll also ensure that the people don’t face inconvenience due to the security checks” he added.
