Police cracks Sopore murder mystery

Srinagar, Nov 26 (KMW): Police today claimed to have cracked the murder mystery of a 22-year-old girl Nayeema Mohi-ud-Din of Behrampora, Sopore who was killed under mysterious circumstances four days ago.

According to a statement issued to KMW, on 22-11-2013, Police Station Dangiwacha learnt from a reliable source that one 22 year old girl Nayeema Mohi-ud-Din alias Soni daughter of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Ganaie resident of Behrampora, Sopore has been killed and her dead body is lying in an orchard near Hib Dangerpora crossing.
Based on the information received a case FIR No: 81/2013 under section 302 RPC was registered with Police Station Dangiwacha and investigation taken up. During the course of investigation the place of occurrence was inspected and a site plan was drafted. After fulfilling medico-legal formalities the dead body was handed over to the legal heirs. Statements of the acquaintances and other concerned were recorded
A police team lead by Mr Riyaz Ahmad Tantary, Dy SP initiated the investigation into the matter and two accused involved into the crime were arrested.
During the course of investigation it surfaced that the victim was having relationship with one Mohd Shafi Dar son of Hafizullah Dar resident of Chankhan, Sopore. They had developed this relationship at their workplace, a private school in Sopore where the deceased was working as Helper and Shafi was working as a driver. Call Detail Records of both of them revealed that they used to talk on phone for hours together during night. Shafi had left the job at school some months ago. Of late Shafi had felt that the girl was no more interested in him and was suspecting her having an affair with some other person and as such had developed ill will and resentment against her.
On the fateful day of 21-11-2013 Shafi along with his friend Mehrajudin Dar son of Nawab Dar resident of Saidpora who drives a Maruti Van bearing registration No JK 05C/4159 picked her up in vain from Sopore town and forcibly took her to an orchard near village Seelu. Accused Mohammed Shafi assaulted her in the vehicle bad then the duo forced the girl to come out of the van while as the girl sensing their bad intentions resisted and tried to call for help. However the duo overpowered her and strangulated her with her head scarf to death.
Then after the duo took the dead body to an orchard near Hib-Dangerpora crossing and threw it there in the orchard. After committing the crime accused Mehrajudin dropped Shafi near his home at Jamia Qadeem Sopore and kept the mobile phone of the victim in his possession. The mobile phone of the girl was recovered by police from the possession of Mehrajuddin. The maruti van used in commission of the crime has also been seized for forensic analysis.
Call records of the victim were analysed which revealed that the victim had received the last call at 1641 hours on the previous day from her betrothed Mohammad Shafi and both of them had been at a common location then after. Subsequently Mohammad Shafi was called and questioned who confessed to the crime. He revealed that he had been engaged to her but suspected her of having affair with some other person and as such with the assistance of his friend Mehrajudin planned to kill her.
Both the accused have been arrested and are lodged in police station Dangiwacha. All evidence collected so far oral and technical suggest the involvements of two accused in the heinous crime who have also confessed before the police.
This was a blind murder case and police team worked day and night for several days to crack the case and nab the culprits. Both the accused have been arrested and remanded to Police lockup.
