Srinagar, Nov 26 (KMW): Advising Vishal Bardwaj the bollywood film maker to portray the situation in Kashmir in its right perspective, Syed Ali Geelani, the chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) on Tuesday said filmmaking in Kashmir can neither minimize the ‘war crimes’ nor can it reduce the sufferings of people.
In a statement issued to KMW, Geelani has said that sofar no film made on Kashmir has portrayed the ground situation in its right perspective and the sufferings of people. “All the films made on Kashmir sofar have advocated Indian stand on Kashmir and have portrayed the political aspirations of Kashmiris in a negative manner.â€
The Hurriyat (G) also strongly condemned police action against the students in Kashmir University asking the authorities to respect the sensitivities and reservations shown by the student community.
“The fresh resentment shown by the students in the varsity has vindicated the fact that the youth at present have become conscious about their principles and political aspirations,†Geelani said while lauding the university students for registering their protest. “It is pitiable that our educational centres are being used for politicking rather than disseminating knowledge. The educational institutions are being made launching pad for young politicians. Our students are not like mute lambs that they can be taken far granted so it is advisable that before organizing activity within the educational institutions our students should be informed prior to that activity.â€
Geelani in the issued statement stated that the education institutes in Kashmir are being made the hubs of cultural and political activities and the vitality of spreading education and knowledge is being continuously ignored on ground. “The students at the university must be appreciated for their belief in the freedom movement and these students have always played the important role in the ongoing freedom movement.â€
Geelani said that the film makers must understand that the reaction of the students at Kashmir University at the time when the tri-color was hoisted in the campus was not any film or the drama scene but the reality of Kashmir and the aspirations of its people. “The authorities must not take the people here for granted and should have taken the student community in confidence before allowing any film crew to shoot in the university campus.â€
