New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today left for New York to participate in the 66th Session of the UN General Assembly where high on his agenda is the reform of the global body, effective measures for global economic recovery and adoption of a comprehesive anti-terror convention. Before the Prime Minister left the Capital, he called upon the UN to resume its global leadership role, and made a strong case for reform of the global body. The Prime Minister said the UN must be seen as an impartial, credible and effective body. “I will stress the need for early reform of this unique organisation, particularly an expansion of its Security Council,” he said. As a key emerging major economy, which is playing a constructive role in contributing to global economic recovery, India would reaffirm its commitment at the UN to continue working with other countries and agencies, to further global economic and financial stability, as well as to foster strong, sustainable and balanced economic growth, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai said here. ”We along with the G-4 and other like-minded countries would continue to work proactively, to maintain the momentum for UN Security Council reforms,” he said.
